OFFER NISSIM – FIRST TIME (STAR 69)

Famous in his own Tel Aviv, Israel is Offer Nissim who has recently signed to Peter Rauhofer's Star 69 Records. The U.S. debut album First Time features the Israeli female vocalist Maya. With 70+ minutes of solid dancefloor tracks, Nissim continues his success from DJ and remixer to full-on music producer. A Middle-Eastern flare splashes throughout the fairly standard NYC house style. Starting out with a slow and very classical string-laden intro, from there on in, the beats stay strong and anthem-like with a chunkiness along the lines of Rauhofer's mix style. Maya goes from track to track varying her vocal style. From Mariah Carey's wispiness - to Lara Fabian's solidity - to Dolly Parton's vibrato. Sure, much of the vocal variation is most likely due to Nissim's skills in regards to studio manipulations. The variety of vocal style from only one vocalist - and their associated applied studio effects - keeps the music intriguing. It's as if there are different featured vocalists on each track. "Alone" is reminiscent of Tamia's dancefloor hit "Stranger In My House". While "First Time" has tints of similarity in vocals and melody to the Shania Twain chart-topper "That Don't Impress Me Much". Nissim twists up Maya's vocals like a strawberry Twizzler and gives us something sweet and chewy that's worth us getting worked up for on the dancefloor. Although some of the synth sounds are those that have been used and abused, there are moments of skilled composition and engineering on Nissim's First Time out that make this album, without a doubt, solid house with an interesting twist. www.offernissim.com - www.star69records.com -- review by Jules Mari
