TRANCE PLANT - SESSION 3 (IN2 MUSIC)

From teflon slickness like Timo Mass' "Pictures" to the progressive build of Modulation's "Sky", from the unshakable beauty of Delerium's "After All" to the dense, epic lushness of "Miss A Day" by ATN, Trance Plant's third session is a powerhouse of metaphysical trance music. Compilations like this show how a proper trance comp is to be made. A bit shy of being as good as the best, Trance Plant 3 still stands head and shoulders above a lot of that dreck cluttering the trance bins. Max8, the master behind the mixin' here, manages to find a selection of tracks that don't get lost within each other, each manifesting with its own unique luster; but he also accomplishes a mix of varied tracks that sounds right, smooth but not dully homogenous. Every track here soars with energy and a quick peek at the names involves shows why: Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, George Acosta, not to mention some talented lesser-knowns. Max8 even adds his own Van Buurenish debut track, "Dreaming." Next time you're browsing frustratedly through the selection at your local CD store, remember what I said and ask the clerk for "Trance Plant Session 3."-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
