HEADSCAN - PATTERN RECOGNITION (ARTOFFACT)

Headscan's sound draws about equally from standard EBM/electro-industrial (a la a lot of the stuff Metropolis Records puts out - though this is Artoffact/Storming the Base, not Metropolis, I cite them merely as strong example) and psytrance/goa). It's almost as though a minimalist psytrance skeleton was wrapped with the trad EBM flavorings. For me it's the psytrance that makes Headscan as listenable as it is. So far as its electro-industrial side goes, it's fairly straightforward and unexceptional stuff, but the strong psyche core goes a long way toward elevating this above what it otherwise might have been, pushing it in the direction of Juno Reactor, though make no mistake, JR is superior. So, goa-industrial, or whatever you want to call it, is what Headscan uses to step aside just a little from the crowd. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
