GLIDEASCOPE "AUDIO CINEMATOGRAPHY" (AKARA) |
| |

I'll confess that "Audio Cinematography" is probably
as apt a name as you could come up with for this
music. It's sort of a breathy bird's eye view of
distant beauty on the ground - for the ears. But that
distance is part of the problem, and it's a little too
breathy. In other words, it feels more like background
music than something my brain and ears would become
actively engaged in listening too. Now, it's not that
way consistently. When the music slips away from the
too-breezy tropical ambience and embraces more of the
dub-hop reggae plus a touch of urban, Glideascope's
work becomes a little more engaging. The music is
never terrible, it's just that it's only infrequently
engaging. It's always pretty, but too often it
functions more as something I'd set to playing in the
background while I read a book or took a nap,
something that would set a nice, light mood but which
I would be aware of only subconsciously half the time.
It's saving grace is that it could be utilized as
meditative ambient if something tropical is what you
seek. -- Check out audio samples on the stellar downtempo site here: properlychilled.com-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
