DJ CAM - REVISITED BY (RECALL RECORDS)

"DJ Cam Revisited By" is obviously a set of Cam tracks remixed by a variety of artists (among them Thievery Corporation). But this goes beyond just some toss-it-out-there batch of mixed up techno numbers. Actually, I think remix albums are more easily appreciated by those who haven't heard the original numbers, which, in this case, would be me. And I have to say that this is a respectable, solid disc in its own right. Marrying spartan with lush and beloved chillout qualities with its badass kicked-backedness, "DJ Cam Revisited By" confronts the listener with an arresting slab of trackage that is admittedly repetitive but within that repetition lies its hook. Rather than coming off as dull or monotonous, the music creates almost a sensual experience, ranging from hip-hop tastes to exotic chillout. Finding laid back but totally hooky grooves to suck the listener in to a world of atmosphere, mystery and well-being, "DJ Cam Revisited By" stands on its own two feet as a trippytasty journey. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
