JUMP/CUT - THE ALIAS MEN |
| |

Jump/Cuts soft an slightly experimental electronica starts with a jazz base (witness the elongated jazz soothing of Pools) and builds its various tracks from there, utilizing non-bombastic D&B and new age guitar (Augmented Reality), muffled vocals mixed with more chilled beats and repetitive but compelling short note progressions (Superior Conjunction), subtle tropi-lounge lushness with Intermission, electro-jazz constructed with ambient sensibilities punctuated discordant interjections (an album standout, Symphony Nine), way downtempo beats and sparkling ambient tuneage (another strong track, Four Minds), dub&bass-ish flavors on K-Town, Solar Revivals pop meets jazz on lazy afternoon morphine, organic sensibilities and stronger experimental soundscape flavors, ethnically influenced (Ohhh That), atmospheric and more aggressive (relatively speaking) jazz funk smoothness on Bi Polar and almost retro-soundtrackyness on Sleep Again, which sounds like it could have accompanied a private eye in 70s TV (but I mean that in a good way. until the distant wavering in of the trumpet sounds reach you. Jump/Cuts restrained but adventurous jazzbient, downbeated sounds are captivating and generate a mood that can be used for everything from relaxation to meditation to nighttime sexiness.
