BORIS - BELIEVE (MOIST)

DJ Boris - who is Russian-born Boris Inzhin - was nominated as 2006 Club World Awards‚ "Best Resident DJ" and is the biggest draw at New York City's Crobar. Boris uses three Pioneer CDJ-1000s, two Technique turntables, a Pioneer EFX-1000, and Ortofon needles to create his masterpieces; one of which is his latest mix CD, Believe. It's deep, it's tribal, it's club-ready and it's one passionate phatt 4/4 rhythm after another. The beats are heavy, the grooves are rich, the vocals are few, and the sexy-fun factor is through the roof. It's seamlessly blended with full consideration of musicality from track to track which keeps the vibe consistent from start to finish. DJ Boris has melded new tracks with proven classics that easily create the wonderful vision of yourself on a dimly lit dancefloor, snaking to the rhythms, surrounded by sweaty bodies - and having no intentions whatsoever of stepping off the dancefloor any time soon. Killer tracks are the majority here. The ones that ultimately capture danceable energy and maximize the climaxes are: Claude van Stroke‚s quirky "Deep Throat" with its fun morphed out male voice who'd „"like to come over"; "Mental Test" by Peter Bailey, "Unforgettable Summer" by Sergio Fernandez, "Move Your Body [Erich Ensastique Mix]" by DJ Rooster & Sammy Peralta, "Feel My Pulse [Paulo‚s Pulsating Mix]" by DJ Paulo & Todd Dutkevitch featuring Tinta, "Roaches [Adam Freemer Rmx]" by Trancesetters, and "Time" by Voodoo People. Thankfully, moments of over-repetition are minimal [as in "EQ-Lizer", "Revolution", and "Fresh Project"] and the rich tribal beats are many. Believe will be hanging out on my iPod for quite some time. www.djboris.com - www.moistmusic.com -- review by Jules Mari
