GIRLS UNDER GLASS - ZYKLUS (METROPOLIS) |
| |

Girls Under Glass' blend of eclectric and electronic elements, their embracing of lush gothic melodies, an infusion of tingling energy and a certain full-bodied hint of organic flesh make their music infectious, danceable and emotive. At times the band is reminiscent of Razed in Black (with a less NIN, more Teutonic vocal approach, of course), with the pulse-pounding beats and the electric guitars often layered in, but where RiB sometimes feels fast and slick but flattened, Girls Under Glass boasts a sound more robust and engaging... thicker somehow. There's also a certain temptation to compare to Rammstein, but that's largely the Germanic origins of the band. However, fans of Rammstein will find much to love here. Girls Under Glass have deftly straddled a border between rock industrial and electro-industrial you don't often see bridged this seamlessly. Zyklus will surely stand as one of the more compelling industrial releases of the year ahead.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
