DANIELLE BOLLINGER "WHEN THE BROKEN HEARTED LOVE AGAIN" (ESNTION)

Danielle Bollinger's dance stuff is admittedly bubble gum and lacking songwriting depth ˜ tunes sing of such things as "tear stains on the dance floor" and angels rolling into action when the broken hearted reunite ˜ but for clubby stuff like this, that's almost irrelevant ˜ as long as it can make you move. Which this can. Slight hints of trance mix in with the club style music and, of course, there's Bollinger's voice itself, perfectly suited to melodic, love-themed pop such as this. Additionally, so the listener doesn't grow weary of one popgum, dance-beated love anthem after another, Bollinger changes up a bit with tracks such as "Don't Give Up On Me Yet," a slower tune that's still danceable but summons a hint of soul/R&B to its stylings. "Feelin' Like a Fool" fuses these slower mid-tempo considerations with some of the personality of the really dancey numbers such as the title track or "Kiss the Sky" or that one about the tears, the three high energy pieces that lead off the disc before it starts its slight explorations. It's not overly eclectic but it isn't totally homogenous, either. "Boom Pop" is another interesting song, slightly Madonna-ish and featuring just the hint of an edge missing from most of the other stuff. If you dig pop and club or if you're happy as long as there's lotsa melody and infectious beats, then Bollinger's CD will suit your purposes. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
