THE G-MAN - MOTION POTION (DELVIAN) |
| |

While I can't say that The-G-Man's music is
exceptional, I can say that it's fairly original (if
not startlingly so) and gives your techno music area
of the brain a little something to chew on. The artist
admirably strive for eclecticism, mixing things up,
often within the confines of one song, which keeps
things from getting lame or dull. The slight down side
is that there are scattered moments where he shifts
before I can really get into the groove of what's
happening. Genre-wise, The-G-Man dodges pigeonholing
fairly well. While a similarity of textural
personality flows from song to song, each one has
enough of its own identity to exist as more than just
arbitrary collection of bedroom DJ tinkers with a
beginning and ending and number on the track portion
of your CD player display screen. The music is
playful, though approached seriously, and is danceable
though sometimes a tad unconventional. Organice
elements are occasionally integrated, which is a nice
touch. Most of the tracks function with rather
motivated combinations of percussive lines atop the
melody of choice (and melody is reasonably strong
here). At the same time, there's a certain subdued
quality to the music. Overall, it's a decent effort
and worth checking out if you have broad tastes (since
it's stubborn refusal to adhere to genre parameters -
which isn't necessarily bad - makes it a tad hard to
convey via words). gmanmusic.com-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
