RANDY BOYER - WEST (REAL HYPE) |
| |

After having been told that up-and-coming Producer/DJ Randy Boyer hailed originally from my own home state of Massachusetts, I was eager to hear his material. Boyer’s latest independent release, West, features a mix of his new material as well as some of his past works [including productions as one half of the production duo EnMass.] Containing predominantly top-notch trance tracks [both instrumental and vocal] along with some older productions [included for his loyal fans], West encompasses a range of material for progressive trance fans. For me, there was a clear delineation between the older and newer tracks. The newer tracks are more musically developed in composition, production, and sound quality - and were clearly the standouts. The older work was less-defined and geared more towards pop [not my favorite style of trance.] The vocal trance standouts are: “Not So Lonely” [co-produced with Eric Tadla and featuring the angelic female vocals of Ari Loren - a great vocal melody line, and vocal placement in the mix maximize their enjoyment], “So Please” [produced with EnMass and the heart-felt vocals of Shimika Brice - with just the right amount of vocal effects, and smashing buildups that include a ripping synth line to enhance the buildups]. For instrumentals, the five-star-makers are: “Beyond Horizon” [produced under EnMass – slightly breakbeat, emotionally uplifting, and intense, with buildups that are sure body-movers], “Ultimate Experience” [produced with Slobo Dusanic – another beauty that features an inspiring electric guitar lead, melodic piano melodies, and rich strings – think Tiesto meets Chicane], “CQ” [again, an EnMass track that takes emotion and energy to the next level with its floating arpeggiated melodies and energy-inducing buildups], and “Chunky Monkey” [the darkest of the tracks – with a slightly more techno feel and a driving energy that’s sure to get the dancefloor rocking.] Boyer captures energy and emotion in his productions and is sure to climb in the ranks of dance music producers.
