OCOTE SOUL SOUNDS AND ADRIAN QUESADA - EL NINO Y EL SOL (AIRE SOL)

The audio palette on the "El Nino Y El Sol" soundtrack are vibrant and alive, rooted in organic personality but charged with electronica's hook. It pulses with traditional flavors while also conjuring a consciousness of right now. So many life-affirming moods could look to this for catalyst, everything from sultry love to afternoon reading to hangin' with friends to my ever favorite lazy afternoon (though I guarantee your head and neck will get a workout, bobbing along, or perhaps your foot as it taps to the absolutely luscious groove on tap here). Great mid-tempo grooves manage to EFFECTIVELY straddle the fence and feel both coolgroovy chilled out and kickin' at the same time. Wicked basslines, flirty flute, nifty guitarwork and more provide plenty of melody and atmosphere as "El Nino Y El Sol" works its way through a presentation that embraces funk, techno and retro tastes in a sort of Latino-Afrobeat sort of thing. This is powerful music with a paradoxically unassumingly gregarious personality that refuses to let you not like it. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
