STERIL - REALISM (ARTOFFACT) |
| |

Steril unleashes ridiculously catchy aggro-industrial hooks that blend the sort of thing Metropolis Records issues ad infinitum and the goa-tinged pulse of Juno Reactor for a sound that is heavy and fist-raising but also laced with melody. In some ways music like this pumps the adrenaline the way a metal band does for the headbangers and it's really not so surprising. You have to consider how much electric energy is banging out in stuff like this. Big freakin' beats banging you into a dancer's frenzy, aggressive vocals whipping you into submission then into a frenzy, pulsating energy zipping all over the place. Then there's that lacing of melody I was telling you about squirreled away in all the mixing, which manages to be thick without excess density and without leaving any unfortunate empty spaces. It's not trailblazing but it is exciting. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
