RYAN FARRISH - EVERLASTING (NEURODISC) |
| |

What really gives this bout of chillout its backbone is the backbone itself - the beats. There are a lot of chillout artists out there, weaving their fantasy/tropical brand of groovy beauty - Enigma, Amethystium and, of course, Ryan Farrish, just to name a few. So Farrish has some competition. But there's no denying he's got the potency to take them on. With "Everlasting" Farrish may have stepped passed labelmate Amethystium on the list of chillout maestros. Naturally, the melodies are lush and lulling, soft and soothing, a siren's song with no treacherous ending. Too bad Homer didn't have this instead of HIS sirens. But what Farrish does with the beat structure is to beef it up just a hair, give it some energy and cojones without offending the chillout ethic. It's like giving it energy but with no forsaking of the laid back, vacation-in-paradise sensation. Using these beats for the pulse of the music and inserting the glorious glow of the melodies, Farrish has crafted a piece of electronica with just the right textures and layering to accomplish his ends. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
