CHAKRA HEALING ZONE (SEQUOIA)

Highs and lows. I absolutely love some of this CD. Please read this review understanding I am a relative novice when it comes to what this CD id designed for: meditation, yoga & massage. However, when Sophia starts off singing, and after listening to this release nearly nonstop for the past week, the lead track "Transformation / Return" is one of the ones I skip through as this repeats on my stereo. The church organ-esque "5th Chakra / Vishudda" is another. Now with that negativity out of the way, I can relax and enjoy her non-English chanting on "6th Chakra / Ajna." Sink slowly into the very mellow, ambient instrumentals infused with nature sounds and soft resonant bass beats of "1st Chakra / Muladhara" and "2nd Chakra / Svadhisthana" and most of the other tracks. (Though I can't help but giggle when one singer calls out, "Here comes the golden rain." He he. Not exactly the imagery that relaxes me!!) Looking inside the CD booklet reveals that about half of these songs have appeared on prior Sequoia releases, but they don't sound familiar and stale even to a Sequoia junkie like me. I really enjoy balancing out my musical tastes, and since I also love my dose of 80s dance, upbeat trance, and deep house, I'll buy that Chakra Healing Zone is "balancing your inner mythical world" with its melancholy yet uplifting mix of ancient and modern sounds. A very nice addition to any chillout collection, though personally I'll be doing a little re-assembly in my iTunes to let the flow wash over me... without having to hit the skip button.-- review by Claire Maxwell
