Wanna catch a few cool warm breezes - I mean grooves? Then you can get down - or chill down since these tunes are equally suited to either leisure activity - with this batch of post-modern summer disco house goodness. Admittedly minimalist and repetitive, it makes up with atmosphere what it lacks in intricacy, not that its utterly simplistic or anything. The hooks are catchy and the music is sunny while still possessing the night time party life feel of house music. In a lot of ways, "Citrus" is the ideal name for this 2-disc Bargrooves set (one CD comped/mixed by Ben Sowton, the other by Matthias Heilbronn) since it really does conjure up images of summer fun. All it's lacking is a nice festive beverage and a sexy lady to go with it (though there are pictures of both on the cover, so that's something, right?). Nice, smooth textures and beats to float across the summer afternoon and into the night life, Bargrooves is a solid season's soundtrack. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
