CHICKEN LIPS "CLICKS, ACID 'N' DISCO" (TRUST THE DJ)

I:Cubes Vacuum Jacket leads off Chicken Lips new Clicks, Acid n Disco comp with etherea-backed mid-speed funk beats. DJ Chicken Lips is at it again, funking out some cool grooves that gather much atmosphere from often spartan compositions. The beats join in an 80s homage by dancing in front of a very old school electropop melody line and equally old school robovox in Moskow Diskow by Telex. Stashs Fools Gold also remembers the 80s with its retrohouse flavah. Blanc Tape by Chicken Lips is so drenched in back-in-the-day electronic cheesepop as to be totally gnarly. The Electronic Boogie Bands Dum Funk lays out a simple discofunk beat touched by slight electronic textures from todays side of the spectrum and hip-hop and minimalist experimental lock together on the decidedly strange Thirst from Tim Wright while dark Latex Empire style goa drives ADJDs Believe, a standout track. With these tracks and others to be found on Clicks, Acid n Disco Chicken Lips does an admirable job of generating good chilled modern disco and finding something new for the listener from track to track. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
