Emilie Simon's "The Flower Book" is interesting but not entirely compelling. Her glitchtro songs with hints of lots of Bjork listening and shifts from thick layering to minimalist sub pop is certainly imbued with a certain originality, but it would be false to automatically connect originality with greatness. I've heard some terribly originaly stuff that was just, well, terrible. However, Simon's work is not terrible, it just doesn't exactly shine. Now, that said, if you're interested in sitting back and soaking up some offbeat pop offerings, Simon may have something for you. She's better on her more low key, chilled stuff (such as the absorbing "Desert"), but her more upbeat pieces are not without their appeal. With a little more growth as an artist, Simon could be a really fascinating artist. As it is, she has provided a thoughtful if not as gripping as it could be collection of tracks that fuse electro, glitch, rock, pop and more.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
