THE WARHEADS - FUNK N GANDHI (RADICAL HOUSE RECORDS) |
| |

Radical House Records has a real winner on their hands here. This is a solid, solid release and if I was as effusive in my wordsmithing as I'd like to be this review would be reduced to the sort of smarm to be expected from the trashiest sort of bodice-ripper. OK, so it's not fair to make fun of bodice-rippers as there are actually good authors out there doing that but it is uberfair to lavish high praises upon this fantastic release. The San Francisco collective known as The Warheads have embarked on a couple of interesting projects (the other is called Bandit Queen, also to be reviewed here) for Radical House Records. "Funk 'n Gandhi" deliciously mixes up the flavors of downtempo, jazz, blues and world music (of a distinctive Eastern variety, as suggested by the name) in a lovely blend of electronic and organic elements. This stuff is better than opium and just as addictive. What marvelous things my ears are drooling over (sorry for that if you literalized the image). This is one of the best releases in the electronic genre I've come across in a long, long while. For that matter, this is a great release in any genre. You must hear this. Or I'll send a resurrected zombie Gandhi to kill you. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
