FUNKERSTORUNG - APPENDIX (!K7)

Glitchyquirkysassy, Funkstorung lays out some devilishly oddball electronica tunes on "Appendix." It's definitely out in left field but also harbors an accessibility that might nab more listeners than your average weirdo CD. Texture heavy and dynamic rhythmically (i.e., you're not listening to the same damn thing over and over from track to track though the force of personality remains the same), "Appendix" is a fine swan song for Funkstorung. It's a tribute to the minds behind this (Michael Fakesch and Chris de Luca), that, though this is a remix album, what you hear as the defining point of reference from track to track is the mien of Funkstorung, though Fakesh and de Luca by no means totally subsume the flavors of individual artists remixed here (such as Bjork). It's a balancing act, and one that Funkstorung does with remarkable acumen. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
