AFTERHOURS 2 (GLOBAL UNDERGROUND) |

The stunning ambient lushness of Olvis The Sea is
a
strong and promising track with which to open disc
one
Global Undergrounds Afterhours 2. Lethargic waves
of deep space resonation flow across and through the
mind, engendering a reaction in ones chest
something
akin to swelling and deeply rooted love. Magic
Shop
from Stef Pako and Frederik moves into the recesses
of
the deepest heart of space musics simple but
inescapable (like a black hole) pull. 3 Sisters by

Hurtz keeps the elongated tones but adds a more
traditional melody line and delicious chilled
grooves,
not to mention the slightest hint of a Cure/Jean
Michel Jarre fusion, very ambient, of course, before
introducing what sounds like drugged alien synthpop.
Funk filtered through space rock and Genesis is
imbibed by your ears on Into the Outside by Forth.
Disc two has plenty to engage the listener in time
travel as well. Take for example Primal Screams
Jailbird, a soft but insisten pulse with space
textures behind it and a repeating vocal sample that
perfectly sets the tone. Quirky, textured beats and
nighttime tons propel Murcofs Memoria and
soothing,
gentle robotry calms the soul on Alice by sinner
dc.
Afterhours 2 is an incredibly strong blend of
ambient, space music and chilled grooves, a sure way
to lose yourself for a while in utterly beautiful
music. (Also includes DVD.)-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
