BRYAN COX - MOTIVE (MOIST MUSIC)

While Bryan Cox doesn't quite escape the anchor caused by too much repetition (something that, in my humble opinion, plagues the dance scene), it does offer plenty to compensate for songs that are sometimes too long and too repetitive. Multiple genre influences can be heard here as Cox fuses house and techno flavors into a burst of high energy and crackling audio layers that work with pounding rhythms to create music that could shake dance halls to their foundation. This two-disc set has plenty to offer in the way of energetic electronica and manages to keep its hooks present and accounted for much of the time. My one big gripe is the lack of focus on strong, alluring melodies that could have taken this from being a good CD to a great one.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
