DJ Jazzy Jeff has left behind the fluff of his seminal days in the rap world, cranking out material with the Fresh Prince. Here is Jeff's more serious side and it's a side well worth checking out. The grooves are hooky as hell but not afraid to have a little kicked back attitude - aggression is not always the point of rap music. Attitude: While Jeff isn't always in-your-face in terms of overall rap flavor, his lyrics are assertive and intelligent - he's got something to say - and his vocal performance is catchy and quite listenable. Sampling and melodies complete the picture; they're neither too sparse nor too dense. The production herein is superb. The whole disc, for that matter, is well-wrought. DJ Jazzy Jeff has managed to carve a distinct niche in the hip-hop world; more power to him. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
