Whichever disc you pop in from Spooky's 2-CD set "Open," you're in for some lush, ethereal music. Disc one is the less chilled of the two, awash in clouds of melody and driven by cool grooves, all topped off with gorgeous female vox. While the music's not aggressive, it's decidedly beat-driven. And what the beats are driving are pretty pretty melodies embodied by lovely electronica and equally lovely vocals. But the real treat here is the second disc. This is the chillout department, folks. The songs from disc one here find themselves morphed into tunes that carry the listener away on a cushiony bed of ambiance. The melodies and vocals are put back together here in a way conducive to transcendence, a journey into the sky where you desire to stay for as long as the music will allow.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
