Stateless' self-titled release mixes organic and synthetic, emotive mainstream intelligent pop with electronica. It's a lovely combination, really. The vocal lines are poignant and touching and sound like they're coming from, say, a gentle adult contemporary artist. The melodies are lush and at times ethereal and remind one occasionally of bands like Coldplay. These organic elements (such as piano and vox, for example) mingle seamlessly with perfectly layered beats that provide just the right amount of aural depth. The melodies seem to come from both worlds, electronic and otherwise. It's a smartly done fusion of influences and the CD is something of a bridge. Electronica fans will find plenty to embrace here while more mainstream listeners can also appreciate the songwriting talent on display. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
