RABBIT IN THE MOON - DECADE (CONTAGIOUS)

What makes RITM’s latest release, Decade, over-the-top, is that it’s their first CD/DVD combination release and also contains previously unreleased and re-mastered tracks as well as phenomenal music videos. How can Rabbit in the Moon’s [RITM] music be described to those who haven’t heard the group before? Let’s see…take a timeless mix of genres such as techno, electro, experimental, breaks, progressive, industrial, house, world, and everything in between and one can only begin to describe RITM’s music. In addition to an array of genres, RITM is also able to capture their passion and intensity into their recordings which emit a sexiness way beyond most electronic music. Their first single off the album is a solid electro/industrial cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”. Its associated video contains footage of a Czech Republic world trade organization protest rally – a raucous site to say the least – and footage of 20,000 screaming fans at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival. The videos on Decade are a mix of live performance videos and music videos and most are mind-twisting. Smashing visually capturing performances, cutting-edge technology, video segments of RITM’s amazing live shows [with creative costuming, dance acts, and fire-eating acts] – along with great video editing - allows full absorption of the audio-visual experience. As an example of a video visual, Bunny [the front man] designed a spectacular custom leather suit housing LED lights that took more than five years to make. While Bunny is performing in his wearable art, VJ Tek is playing custom videos mapped to Bunny’s suit while performing against a video backdrop. VJ Tek refers to the performance as “visual poetry” [a perfect description.] Considering RITM’s 1993 release “Out-of-Body-Experience” [OBE] [also included on both the CD and DVD] is still played in clubs, it’s no surprise that Muzik Magazine has ‘OBE’ as the number one sought after record in the last decade. No wonder RITM has been sought out for remixes by such well-known acts as Garbage, Smashing Pumpkins, Eric Clapton, Sarah McLachlan, and Tori Amos. Decade is much more than your average electronica release. The stand-out tracks here are the progressive “Deeper”, electrofied “Let’s Dance”, sexy-dubbed “Justify My Love”-ish “Dubassex”, psytrance-esque “Outer Body Experience”, and industrial-tinged “Decade.” For both “rabbitheads” [diehard RITM fans] and newbies alike, this release is for anyone who enjoys highly creative electronic music and visual works-of-art.
