HELLO STRANGER is a raw, funky, creative, and original album. No other artist is putting out music like this right now. DJ/producer KAOS has ventured out from his other projects, Ghost Cauldron and Terranova, to go solo and to cultivate a sound that’s new, unique, infectious, and surely the prototype for future imitated albums.
HELLO STRANGER has a warm, authentic, and meaty vibe throughout because instead of cold and predictable samples, KAOS brought real musicians into the studio to create and produce real music. Like James Brown’s famous jam sessions, KAOS and collaborators (Erlend Oye, Eddy Cooper & Jason Friedman from The Boggs, Nicole from Electrocute, and many more) joined forces for the creative process, vibing off KAOS’ rhythms and harmonies, contributing their own genius, and establishing a catchy hook, giving way to a full-grown song. The live instruments and singers really translate well KAOS’ eclectic style and sound.
“Lessons in Love” is a groovy disco track with a walking bassline, spacey synth, and Erlend Oye’s romantic voice. “Juices” rocks that soulful electro-funk, as well as on “Feel Like I Feel” - which compliments its sexy falsetto vocals. “Now and Forever” has this edgy, visceral guitar riff that gets under your skin. The album’s anthem is “My Reputation”, a dramatic and mysterious sounding arrangement with a collection of keyboard tone selections and syncopated rhythms over a relentlessly eerie bassline at the forefront and an ominously repeated chorus.
KAOS, focusing on the fundamentals, truly has a great ear and has created something totally fresh and fun. HELLO STRANGER is a clever, exciting, and well produced album, go pick it up and introduce yourself.-- review by ursula
