STARKILLERS - DIRTY SOUND VOLUME 1: THE INJECTION (MADE RECORDS)

They weren't lying. See, according to the press materials, Nick Terranova (that would be the mind behind Starkillers) is the artistic bridge between trance and house. That's not quite how the press release put it, but you get the idea. At first I was skeptical. I love good trance but house rarely impresses me, even good house. I can assess it objectively, but personally... it rarely clicks with me. But I have to say, Starkillers really has managed to find what is best about house music and buoy it up with the bounce and hook of trance music. There really is a middle ground that, rather than watering its two elements down, finds a way to fuse them into a different yet familiar creature. One thing that helps the disc is the big beatedness of it. Made Records has displayed an affection for a huge beat sound, and this is no exception. And the textures are alive and heady. "Dirty Sound Volume 1 (The Injection)" is the album for house fans who don't like trance and tranceheads who don't like house. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
