PUTUMAYO - BRAZILIAN LOUNGE

Putumayo strikes again. Actually, I don't know how far back in the label's history this album goes - recent or early standard-bearer - but it's the latest in a slew of Putumayo CDs I've heard and so ... I've been struck again. "Brazilian Lounge" is a tower in the Putumayo canon, and that's really saying something given the consistent quality of the label's CDs. "Brazilian Lounge" brings us the spicy flavor of South America flirting playfully with modern chillout. But though this is one cool deal, the "chillout" tag shouldn't make you think this is lazy or lethargic. "Brazilian Lounge" is imbued with such bright spirit and love of life that it's impossible to escape its addictiveness. The fact that it wallows gloriously in its jazzanova sensibilities only further enhances its ability to sink deep in your soul and make you love this CD as much as it loves embracing the life that unfolds around us. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
