ECCOTRONIC - FLOW MOTION (KITE RECORDS)

Eccotronic is absorbing if not exciting. I can't say that it's not good downtempo, because it is, damn it. It's got energy with chills, a nice oxymoronic idea that really fits here. Ethereal melodies are cloudy vehicle for pretty female vocals. And the grooves are textured and exert a good pull. This is quite well done; it's good chillout and I can't find a specific reason to say why it doesn't hook me in, but it doesn't. This is one of those cases of good, but not great. Having said that, though, I'm also objective enough to realize that plenty of chill fans will find much to clamor over in this CD. It is a well-crafted, artful batch of tracks and even a picky son-of-a-gun like me could kick back to it every now and then.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
