DJ DOLORES - 1 REAL (CRAMMED) |
| |

Traditional musical culture is bumped up by means of electronica augmentation, not to mention some guitars - and the shocker is that this was apparently accomplished through not-terribly high-tech equipment. It's an excellent fusion of organic world elements and electronica - indeed, it's as much solid world rhythms as electronica. The music has lost none of its old culture charm and its got all the cheerful life needed for nitpicky modernists. A hi-fi feeling sound yanked from low-tech recording, "1 Real" is a standout performance of danceable and just downright highly listenable tracks. (Incidentally, this inexpensively produced music is sold in Brazil on CD-Rs for 1 Real, Brazil's national currency - hence the name; fortunately, we in the U.S. get full-blown digipaks.) The album is eclectic - there's something new around every corner. Old style hypnotism meets contemporary groovage.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
