LIQUID STRANGER - THE INVISIBLE CONQUEST |
| |

A taste of the experimental, a chunk of tribal, all wrapped around a root of dub excellence. Dub can truly be a hit-or-miss genre. Some flirt with goodness but end up with mediocrity. Here is an artist that lays out some dub vibes that shoot right through to the middle of your gut. But Liquid Stranger even offers up some other delicacies. This album hardly rests on the ability to toss out some echoes of dub flavors. That experimental attitude makes it possible for Liquid Stranger to approach without fear moments of ambience and sound manipulation. Tribal rhythms re-occur and bring in an organic grounding. Then there's that masterful manipulation of dub textures. Liquid Stranger is an original artist doing something interesting and unique with a genre that occasionally feels tempted to phone it in. Ain't no phone lines up here. This is a house call.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
