AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ PROJECT - A PUERTO PADRE - TRIBUTO A EMILIANO SALVADOR (YEMAYA RECORDS) |
| |

Despite the presence here of The Afro-Cuban Jazz Project, the sound is overwhelmingly Latin. Tunes by Emiliano Salvador get an delicious deliverance to the listener on this CD. Jazz fans will find this a hedonistic delight. Gentle yet energetic, "Tributo a Emiliano Salvador" is nine tracks of jazz bliss, shot through with a spicy infusion of Latin personality. Fully functional as both jazz and world music, this release is bound to draw a horde of those with discerning tastes. Functional, hell! That's like saying this is a passable timekiller. This is magnificent, unflawed (other than that devotees will lament the presence of only nine songs), a sterling example of what world jazz can be. Rich, sweet, dripping with personality, "Tributo" almost makes the face of this man arise in full form from the music. Or maybe I've just looked at the damn cover too much. But if a CD could summon the very corporeal presence of its originator, this one could do it.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
