Sometimes, electronica rocks. That's the first thing that popped into my head when this big, punchy, loud beats kicked in and the attitude came sizzling across the air between me and the speakers. In-your-face is a term no one can argue is overused, but when it fits, it fits. (Any excuse to be lazy and employ a cliche, right? Anyway ...) Lots of the robustness of electro, without as much of the buzziness - though energy crackles here - and plenty of house, though this is more rambunctious than most of that genre's offerings. And, frequently, if not always, the spirit of rock-n-roll. A hedonistic wallowing, rich and shallow, glittery and surly, indulging in excess (ha! redundant phrasing!) but defined by that very thing. Be what you are - the maxim no doubt manifests tangibly with these guys. Hit in the head - pop - walloped! ... every time a beat smacks, blunt and focused. Poppy melodies - a different pop from the smack upside the head delivered by the grooves. It's an energetic and dedicated sound, inconsistently catchy, enjoyable and distinct but maybe a tad forgettable too. And still not without its memorable streak.
