RED SNAPPER - PALE BLUE DOT (LO RECORDINGS) |
| |

Red Snapper is richly organic and maybe even barely qualifies for inclusion in the electronica bin. But, it does make the cut. Though the electronic style grooves are the backbone for some very classic and classy sounds. Bits of instrumental vintage rock flavor (as in, ...abilly) and maybe just a teensy dash of surf rock attitude offer their subtle infusions but more to the surface most of the time are gobs of jazz, ethno-jazz and funk. Lots of pacy world-tinged danceworthy paces abound throughout these concoctions but some time for chillout is not forgotten. It's as if a great vintage vinyl store was raided and its contents flushed smoothly through a post-modern heart hiding a semi-secret love of left-field but not necessarily off-the-beaten-path old rock and pre-rock influences. And, this is a bona fide band - not just a record-spinning DJ (not that we at DJFix.com have a problem with that in the least!). Red Snapper's live shows apparently kick ass. This CD sure does.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
