TOOLROOM NIGHTS MIXED BY JOACHIM GARRAUD

I think I've found another line of house releases to fall in love with. (I'm not giving up my love for Fabric's CDs - this is an open relationship.) But it's nice to know some house that's more than just clubthumping is coming from more than one reliable source. Not that I really thought such a thing to begin with, but what can I say? I'm happy to know another name I can trust. Joachim Garraud's "Toolroom Nights" mix is the second "Toolroom" release I've encountered (at least that I remember off the top of my head - don't call me a liar) in recent history that really turns me on. This has got some super sharp textural work, heady beats, slice-and-dice hooks and uncontainable atmosphere. This one's got a tight fist grip - it won't let you go, even across a 2-disc running time. This isn't club crap; this is intelligent, cutting edge house music, the kind that can rock the limbs AND the synapses. Righteous, revved up and rock solid. Four stars.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
