BENNY BENASSI "TOOLROOM NIGHTS" (TOOLROOM RECORDS) |
| |

Lordy, lordy, lordy! I been kilt! (That's a good thing - it means I'm in house heaven.) I could be more effusive, and even more cheesy, but I'll resist. Because there's nothing cheesy about this 2-disc set. (Even when it borrows from 80s music - remember Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night" and Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence"? - it does so in ubercool fashion.) This is some hot-n-heady house music herein. The tunes bounce and buzz all over the place. A wall of atmosphere just dripping with electronic texture thumps its grooves all through your bones. It's a hook-heavy affair from the word go. I'm smitten by this masterpiece of DJ craftsmanship. The beats are big, the fuzz is focused and tight; it's a catchy pulse of smart dance music that energizes "Toolroom Nights." No shallow club shenanigans here. Benny Benassi has got a huge sound going here, a formidable construct of swoon-inducing vibes arising out of the dark but welcoming shadows of the night.-- review by KRISTOFER UPJOHN
