PUTUMAYO PRESENTS ESPANA (PUTUMAYO)

Espana is another of Putumayo's more organic world CDs, less about retro-futurism, so to speak (in this case, classic world music encountering the musical culture edge by way of electronica), and more about an update of sorts of straightforward world. Bits of jazz and lots of summery flavor from the warmth and glow of the tunes make Espana a comforting bath of sounds to indulge in if you're feeling relaxed but not lethargic. Which is to say that, much like the "Brazilian Cafe" disc, this is a middle ground between chilled grooves and party hooks. Not among Putumayo's best, but quality nonetheless.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
