LEE COOMBS - BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS (FINGER LICKIN) |
| |

Lee Coombs' new artist album is a mixture of house, breaks and electro with a definite retro 80’s flavor. Coombs use of old acid house sounds and percussive stabs makes these tracks an instant success and as catchy as the winter flu. He gets together with producers Dylan Rhymes, Andy Garner (Plump DJs), Christian J, and Jem Panufnik, along with club favorites Grant Plant and Paul Oakenfold. His main bit of kit that he loves to use is his Roland TB-303, made famous in Detroit Techno and Acid House bass lines, it gives the authentic acid-house retro, FAT, analogue sound to his music. Some tracks to watch for: New Order "Crystal (Lee Coombs BoC remix) – a beautiful 4/4 Housey remix of the classic track. I must say I like this remix even better than the original. Tight focused and giving a different lick to a familiar beat. Top production as you would expect from this original old school player. "Lick the Frog" is another different slice of thumping electro flavored breakz. "Lick the Frog" pushes all the right buttons for the dance floor. Stabs and bass do battle, cavorting through the track, while laying down a relentless groove. All around solid release and a joy to listen to.-- review by Ryan Bernier
