SICK GIRLS "REVOLUTION NO. 5: SICK TRICKS AND URBAN BASS"

Streamlined, punchy eclecticism abounds on Sick Girls' "Revolution No. 5," whose subtitle, "Sick Tricks and Urban Bass" both describes what you're going to hear and doesn't quite capture the whole picture. That's okay, though, that's why you listen to the CD. Such a sick (of course) and funky mix of techno styles and urban music cries out LISTEN TO ME and you should probably listen to what the tunes are screaming - in other words, by listening to the tunes themselves. From hooky hip-hop to drum-and-bass creativity to kooky tech-vibe tribal heavy mini-house, this disc is all over the map but not in a way that sounds like a cluster**** - not by any means. In its slightly more than a half hour running time, "Revolution No. 5" spreads across an impressive range of audio elements, from sampling to beats to hooks, and it's all got an edge, both in content and in hard-hittingness. This is one of the more creative techno(urban) mixes you're apt to plug into your ears any time soon.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
