The Nigel Richards Story: Nigel Richards started back in 1988 DJing his freshman year for the University of Rochester station. He started in the 'dungeon' on the AM station, but with his wacky sense of humor, handful of dance tunes, all his friends calling in, he quickly moved up to their FM station WRUR 88.5. Graduating with a degree in Economics and a Business Certificate in Marketing, Nigel headed back home to Philadelphia, where, armed with his education and musical talent, he set out to make a place for himself.

Nigel was soon throwing parties and DJ'ing whenever and wherever he could. On August 5, 1993, his dreams came to fruition when he opened his 611 Records store (611 South 4th Street). Eventually he would expand his business by starting a web-based retail store (611records.com), a line of clothing, and opening an additional store, 612 Clothing, to sell his clothing line and used records. And as if that weren't enough, the store 611 Records also became home to three record labels: his own 611 Records, Society Hill Recordings and 611 DnB. 611 Records put itself on the dance music map releasing mixed CDs from Carl Michaels, Derrik Carter, Dieselboy, and, of course, Nigel Richards. The other two labels release vinyl on a monthly basis and are doing quite well, with a fantastic roster of talent contributing to their success.

As a producer, Nigel Richards' infallible feel for diverse styles has earned him admiration throughout the world. His releases on such labels as Extortion (UK), Stickman (CAN), Blue Line, and 611 have been played, charted and licensed by such notaries as Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Samuel Sessions, Angel Alanis, Josh Wink and DJ Dan. His style always changes, which one could follow through his 25 plus releases since 1994. You can hear audio of many of them on his website, along with a detailed personal diary, photo galleries, and a lot more. For his latest release, check out the Listen & Buy link below.

Nigel's latest mix CD release "Futurematic" showcases the evolution of his distinctive house sound. Featuring tracks by Josh Wink, David Alvarado and Richards himself, Listen & Buy It Here

Nigel quotes

<burp> "Sorry. I'ts all those Poprocks. When you drink Red Bull with Poprocks, it tastes great but its really bad."

"Sing it, just sing it. I'll probably know it."

On his success: "We are no where near where we intend to be."

"All of us involved with 611 records and every aspect of my personal success are very grateful for what we have accomplished. However, we certainly will never put our heads down in comfort. We have high goals and expectations and intend to achieve them while establishing more."

"You only and always go as fast as you pedal so pave your own road and ride it."

"He truly has a good time with what he does. He's a very successful entrepreneur: He has a clothing line, a record store, he's a DJ, he's a producer and he does all of them very well. He does everything to the best of his ability and that's very inspiring." -DJ Dan in URB Magazine
