Our former singles reviews and news column, by Editor Shawn Wallace, where he gave the latest Vinyl and CD singles a spin.

April 2004

Where to begin, oh where to begin? So have you recovered yet from the trip to Miami? Don't worry, you're not the only ones!!! This is the best part of my job, sorting through the post-WMC onslaught of new releases. After you make your through the multitude of fresh cuts here, be sure to check out this months streams and charts including our very own Revolutions Top 10, WMC hot picks from Dave Dresden (Motorcycle, Gabriel+Dresden), and this month's guest DJ chart from Noel Sanger. This year is no different, there is a lot here, so get comfortable, and let's get to it before my combination caffeine/sugar rush gives out.

American trace favorite Christopher Lawrence has decided to launch his new Pharmacy Music label with our favorite track this month "Genesis" (Pharmacy Music), a thumping peak-hour cut that can be heard in the upcoming indie-films LA DJ and Put The Needle On The Record. Classical crossover sensation Sarah Brightman is back with a follow-up to her smash "Harem" with the release of "Free (Swiss American Federation Remixes)," which as a bonus includes a reworking of the track in French ("Gueri De Toi") by Nemo, out now on Angel Records. DJ Hyper is sure to be caning his latest cut "Shock Proof" while touring with The Crystal Method this spring. You can also find the track and the flipside "Outsider" included in Hypers latest mix CD "Wired" (420 Recordings) www.djhyper.com.

Deepsky's outstanding track "Talk Like a Stranger (Feat. Jes)" will be released on Deep Dish's D.C. based Yoshitoshi as a double pack including the original 12" mix and remixes by Burufunk, Markus Schulz and Sunday Club. A follow up release will include new mixes later this year. Be sure to pick that up in your local record shop as this is being touted as the biggest smash hit of 2004! Check back at www.deepsky.net for more info.

Another friend of Revolutions who is having a smashing new year is Noel Sanger who has several remixes in our future, including Noel Sanger "Designs" (Electrofly), and D Bajema "Twilight (Noel's Peace On Earth Mix) (Hunya Munya Recordings), both due this summer. In addition, the remix that he did for The PQM Projects "Aenema" (Noel Sanger's Global Reset Button Remix) (Institution Recordings) will be released in the US next month although for those of you who cannot wait the track will be available on the new music download site EDMDigital.com at the end of April. And on a final note from the Sanger camp, Noel Sanger presents Bodhi Tree "Trapped", (the original mix was featured on last years Summerbreeze 2 album (Nettwerk)) will be released as a single later this summer on Release Records. Check www.noelsanger.com for updates. Philly-based Framework Records has a few entries this month starting with a stormer from Blimp titled "Heaven", the label friendly "We Pledge Allegiance" featuring tracks from Framework artists Blimp, Paul Birken, The Aphorism, and Ibrahim Alfa. And speaking of The Aphorism, the favorites of the legendary German club Tresor, have also released "Fettes Kind (The Fat Kid)" EP (Framework).

Ray Roc, better known as The Roc Project, is back for round two with a new vocalist, Tina Novak, and an amazing new track "Dj Vu (Its Hard To Believe)" (Tommy Boy Silver). The single features amazing remixes from Johnny Budz, JJ Flores, and the outstanding Guido Osorio Main Vocal Mix, this one is not to be missed! South Florida-based TVI Records has a couple of pop-oriented tracks of note, "Fantasy Hot Shot" and "Jago Dream." Fantasy is a rising female quartet while the Jago Brothers (collectively known as Jago) are well on the way to becoming the next Ian Van Dahl www.tvirecords.com

What do you do if you don't want to cover a track? You get in touch with the original artist, which is exactly what happened when White Faces combined with former Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr to release covers of SM's hits "Don't You (Forget About Me)" (Stefano Sorrention Remix) and "Alive & Kickin (Phunk Investigation Dub Mix)" (White Label). In what could easily have been another ultra-cheesy cover, props have to be given to Pepper Mashay and porn star turned singer Colton Ford for their cover of the Stevie Wonder classic "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" (Centaur).

For those who made it down, you were no doubt among the many who were feeling the pulse traveling through across Miami from the latest crop of tracks from Tiesto's Black Hole imprint, including Mark Norman "Phantom Manor", Estuera 7 "Clouds", and Midway "Amazon (Plastic Angel Remix)". Strong vocal tracks were also emitting from Black Hole with both DJ Cor Fijneman featuring Anita Kelsey "Healing (Vocal Mix)" and Erik De Koning featuring Julie Morrison "Secretly (Original)" moving dancefloors under the sun. Speaking of Florida (like it hasnt been mentioned enough already), the Orlando based production duo of P-Bone & Devine have released "Feel You" and "Fusion" which are true old-skool breaks done right. These tracks can be found on the Breaks Collective 18 disc which also features a collaboration with vocalist emily PLAY whose vocal stylings makes "Soleil (Calling For The Sun)" a track to lookout for in the coming months.

Corderoy "Sweetest Dreams (Ferry Corsten Remix)" (Relative) is yet another reason why Corsten is a rising talent to watch. While Moby has gained international attention for his work, Seraphim Suite have decided to rework a well-known sample favored by the Voodoo Child with the release of their "Heart (Original)" (Inferno), which is already a must-have ring tone. Bram VanK featuring Tony C. "This Time I Rise (DJ Dazzle Remix)" (First Second) is an alluring remix from one of the most overlooked remixers in the world, DJ Dazzle. An uncovered gem this month is Leigh Paul's "New Perspective (Original Mix)" (Liquid Asset), which has all the makings of a trance classic. From recent Dancestar Best Label winner Star 69 is the thumping "Made By Monkeys I Try (Attention Deficit Remix)." Out this month on ...records (dotdotdot records) are brand-new remixes of Colonel Abrams vs The Groove Junkies "Music is the Answer 2004" (records). Gusgus have issued their latest "David" with Tim Deluxe mixes on limited edition sky blue heavyweight vinyl, which can be found at all good retailers and www.underwaterrecords.com .

As more and more mainstream artists are enjoying success in the world of the remix, here are a few worth noting: Pink is back for another dancefloor assault with "God Is A DJ (D-Bop Remix)" (Arista), sure, we've all heard the title before, but its rocker. 80s sensation Cyndi Lauper proves anyone can be a dance diva in the right hands with "Walk On By (Eddie X Remix)" (Epic). And everyones favorite Latin son Enrique Iglesias has joined with Kelis for "Not In Love (Dave Aude Extended Vocal Mix)" which is some of Aude's best work ever. Jocelyn Enriquez has released "Why (Al R. Rich Mix Show)," saucy and sexy, just the way we like it!

The highly anticipated BT "Force Of Gravity" (Nettwerk), is set to be released with remixes by Tiesto and Dylan Rhymes and bonus cuts "Superfabulous" and "The Great Escape". 80's icon Joyce Sims has reinterpreted her own classic track "Come Into My Life" (Funk La Planet), with mixes from Benjamin Deffe & Andy Funk, Serge Sanz and the Supaflyas. Simply Red "You Make Me Feel Brand New" have returned with a classic Stylistics ballad while Love 2 Infinity and Antillas amazing mixes. A continuing favorite here at Revolutions is Delerium's "Truly" (Nettwerk). This international hit features a remix package that includes Infusion, Brother Brown, Wise Buddah and our choice Signum. From our friends at SAW Recordings comes "Chanting Souls" by Versa due out at the end of this month. This release features two mixes with distinctly different sounds, ranging from a tribal feel while a female voice to "Gerber's Glowing Edges Mix", that adds an electro-disco feel with vocals provided by Guy Gerber, one half of the production team "2 Guys".

2004 Grammy-winner Maurice Joshua is releasing a track featuring a collaboration with Liquid Soul called "La La" (Planet Records), includes remixes from Thick Dick, Joe Smooth, MTV-alum Jackie Christie, and Shane X. Sueno Soul Project fea. Ray Saint-Ville have released "U Dont Know What Love Is" (Stealth Records) and out on Equal Records this month is Rain by Henderson with remixes from George Junior, Kane Prince Gaudy, Desansis, and Lil Big Bee. Complicit Recordings has few tracks you should know about like James Black "Dark Thunder," Plutonic "Origin Of The Species," Plutonic "Genesis", and Ocean "Blue Theme" From Ocean Blue. Details at www.mediaservicesnyc.com.

On the music download front be sure to check our favorite new service Beatport and while you are there, be sure to check our very own DJ Angelique's weekly Raves.com chart of the hottest new downloads. Another new download service that is booming with new releases is Trax2Burn, where this month you can find downloads including Armand Van Helden's "Hear My Name" with remixes from Solid Groove and Serge Santiago, Lottie's "Supakilla," and the new Del 5 track "The Booty People" on End Recordings, a quirky, electronic and slightly sleazy. Underwater has released upfront promos from Greg Churchill and Random House Project featuring Robert Owens with the Miami hit "Longing."
