REVOLUTIONS - ARCHIVES
Our former singles reviews and news column, by Editor Shawn Wallace, where he gave the latest Vinyl and CD singles a spin.

August 2003

Summer is blazing by and here is just a sampling of what has been flowing from our speakers. A lot of buzz has been surrounding Anny White Lipstick Girl (Uncommon Trax), a very distinctive house tune finding a growing amount of support from several top names, including Seb Fontaine (Radio 1/Perfecto), Paul Hiller (Cream/Southern FM/Power FM), Jody Westerhoff (Way Out West), and Tom Stephan (Superchumbo). Noel Sanger has been busy lately putting together several tracks aimed at your pleasure zones, including a bootleg of the 80’s classic In A Big Country from the band Big Country. In Sanger’s hands this tune takes a romp through a pumping bass line with strategically placed synth samples from the original. DJ Hyper has been seeing a lot of interest in his release Catnip (Acetate), where he continues to show the electrified direction that breaks have taken in recent times with the Noel Sanger remix being a much deeper cut showing old-school breakbeat appeal. Another tune that is seeing several spins for us is from Descent. Their track Deep End (Release) is a crave-worthy cut that becomes very addictive after only one turn. The story with this track is the Noel Sanger Waterwing Breaks Mix, loaded with sub-bass that cuts straight through this tune like the various stabs that punctuate the mix. Chicago-duo Sombionx & Lindsay have made the best of owning their own studio by putting together forward thinking house music since coming together a few years ago. A highlight from their recent work is the track Close To You (Lowdown), where the duo has generated a lively tune driven by stylish vocals and a comfortable flow. If you have a chance, definitely check them out at www.qstudios.tv. Remixes for Tremble (Dcide), the lead single from the third album for the band Clare Quilty have been another stunner this month with a fusion of rock music and effects put to a very danceable beat. The track is given a bubbly mix of sweeps and keys in Richard Morel’s Pink Noise Mix while mixes from Dex Dubious/DBC, Moda, Cruz & Bagz, and Smitty & Davenport see this track explore the range of imagination with Hi-NRG and Hard Trance as the cuts of choice. Check them out at www.clarequilty.com.
