REVOLUTIONS - ARCHIVES
Our former singles reviews and news column, by Editor Shawn Wallace, where he gave the latest Vinyl and CD singles a spin.

February 2004

In what can only be described as this months postal lottery, there is enough music to bridge the gap until the coming migration to South Florida.

We are only weeks away and DJs arund the world are finalizing their tracks from debut at clubs across Miami while devoted fans are becoming increasing anxious to hear what will be the next big tunes to hit the dancefloor. In anticipation of the coming bounty, here are just a few things to help tide you over.

Lets get things started with Iio, who following on the heels of releasing two of the bigger club tunes of the 2003, are back with Smooth (Pig & Dan Club Remix) (Made), which is geared for to cause the crowd to jam the dancefloor. A stunner we have definitely been getting behind is Malyssa with Here With You (Euro Club Mix) (Rhythm Drive Records), while its true teen mixshow fodder, well like the beat. As musical borders between countries continue to blur, tracks like the DJ Russ Harris featuring ALina collaboration Dance With Me (Euro Pop Extended Mix) (Definitive) are poised to find an audience on either side of the pond.

Just in time for the spring trek, Tim Deluxe brings back his flair for the tropical with the luscious Mundaya (The Boy) featuring Shahin Badar (Underwater). The pulsing Twisted Reality from Empyreal Sun is an atmospheric feast out now on ATCR and has been caned by the likes of Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, and Paul van Dyk to name a few. David Forbes has released a beautifully designed piece of music in Simpatico (Scanners Mix) (Red Monkey Records), whose keys flow at a wonderful pace. Another elusive track worth getting your hands on is The Nickelson Night Project Screen Saviour (Solid Globe Remix) (Fundamental Recordings), with a touch of the old melded in a classic format aimed to appeal to any clubber. The name Life In Intense Volume doesn't begin to cover the immense drive of their latest release Journey Of Love (Club Vocal) (Ultra). This is the sort of diva-driven track that can cause levels of more than one kind to rise. Sassy Latina Thalia brings her sex appeal to Baby, Im In Love (Norty Cotto Club) (Latin/Virgin Records).

For a glimpse at why the production duo of Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden have been recognized with a Breakthrough Producer nomination for the 2004 DanceStar USA Awards (and are our choice to win), just check out Sarah McLachlan's Fallen (Gabriel and Dresden Anti-Gravity Mix) (Arista). While were discussing awards shows, Maurice Joshua has received a fourth Grammy-nomination for his remix of Beyonce's Crazy In Love featuring Jay-Z (Sony), which is only one of many the producer has on the way including cuts from Mariah Carey I'm The One and Through The Rain (Island-Def Jam), Whitney Houston Try It On My Own (Arista), and Blu Cantrel's Sleep In The Middle (Arista). To learn more about Maurice Joshua, be sure to check out www.mediaservicesnyc.com for the latest. We'll see in the Grammy's how he stacks up against Timo Maas and Martin Buttrich, Bill Hamel and Barry Jamieson, previous winner Peter Rauhofer, and the legendary Masters At Work.

Dido, whose roots are firmly entrenched in the dance community, has two entries this time around that are sure to fit your mix with Stoned (Deep Dish Remix) and White Flag (Scumfrog Remix) (Arista). It's hard not to be drawn to anything from Oscar G and Ralph Falcon when they come together under their Murk alias and Believe (Rosabel Vocal Mix) (Tommy Boy Silver) is no exception. Their signature blend of tribal thump is heavily accentuated by the soulful vocal style of Tamara Wallace. Robbins Entertainment has several releases sure to get your sets pumping from the pop dance of Candee Jays If I Were You (Pronti & Kalmani Vocal Remix) to KMC featuring Sandy with Get Better to the pumping, sexually-charged Give It Up (Tribalist Mix) from NYC clubbing legend Kevin Aviance, all of which are sure to throw the crowds into a frenzy.

What do you get when you mix an 80's music icon and one of the top producers of today? Annie Lennox Beautiful (Dave Aude Extended Club Vocal) (J Records) of course! Aude builds you up and drops you so many times you had better break out the Red Bull! The Rio Klein track Fearless (Agnelli & Nelson Mix) (Nettwerk) has been securing a large amount of radio and club play, is it in your bag? Our pick of the month is Delerium, who has been receiving a lot of well-deserved praise for the Truly (Signum Club Mix) (Nettwerk). This track is Truly (hehe) one of his best tracks yet and has received receiving praise from DJs such as Dave Dresden and Florida favorite Dave Cannalte as well as vinyl junkies the world over.

So until next month, keep the energy as we are sure to hear some amazing music in the coming months. See you in Miami!!!
